The origin of the Tudor family lies over this hill on the island of Hvar, off the coast of Croatia. This is where the Tudor family began farming in the “old country.” After immigrating to the United States in the late 1930’s, Vladimir Tudor, Sr. began growing grapes in the area around SanBernardino, CA. Within a few years Vladimir began to look south to the Coachella Valley, and in the late 50’s his eldest son Vladimer Tudor, Jr. joined him there. After Vladimir Sr. died in 1973, his other son Marion moved from Orange County to help in the family business. The two brothers have overseen an operation that has grown from 20 acres in the early 40’s to over 2000 acres of table grapes, dates and citrus today.
Vladimer Tudor, Jr. passed away in 1996, but the next generation of Tudors has since stepped in. Four of Vladimer’s children, Vlady, George, Joseph and Cecilia currently work for the company, while Marion continues to oversee the whole operation. Since Vladimer Jr.’s passing, Tudor Ranch, Inc. has ventured into different crops and expanded its facilities. The Tudor family continually strives to live up to the high expectations set by Vladimer and his father before him because that’s the way they would have wanted it.
